It develops reassurance and the creation of a safer, cleaner environment for customers and staff alike and an increase in local police officers. By releasing one or more members of your staff for a few hours each week you'll be actively helping to reduce crime in your High Street. And it pays to be involved - when the scheme was trialled in February 2004, retailers taking part say that reported store theft halved.
To help encourage your staff to take part in the scheme, free London travel, on Tube, Bus and DLR, is available on and off duty - as a significant direct financial benefit for your team members, and a great help towards staff retention. This offer is open to all current ShopWatch Special Constables who perform at least 200 hours a year *.

As a guide, a ShopWatch Special Constable performing one day's duty per fortnight would accrue 208 hours duty per year.We will provide your staff with comprehensive training and the skills necessary for them to become competent police officers. Many of the skills they will develop are transferable and can be used equally well in the workplace. This training is provided at no cost to retailers so there's no financial deterrent to retailers in allowing their staff to build new skills and confidence.
